FAQ
What riders ask most
Why Ecuador?
Ecuador combines volcanic terrain, high-altitude riding, cloud forest, dry valleys and efficient logistics within a compact geography — so you link long natural descents without losing days to transit.
Do I have accident insurance?
For multi-day expeditions, basic local operational insurance is included during guided activities. Riders are still required to carry personal travel and medical insurance with mountain biking or adventure sports coverage. For last-minute full-day rides, local ride insurance may require advance coordination and is not automatically included unless confirmed.
Can I customize my expedition dates?
Private departures and custom itineraries may be arranged depending on availability, group size and operational feasibility.
What equipment should I bring?
A full-suspension enduro bike is strongly recommended for all Gravity Lines rides and expeditions. The brand is not important; what matters is that the bike is properly maintained and suitable for natural enduro terrain, long descents, loose surfaces and changing conditions. For protection, bring a proper MTB helmet, full-finger gloves and knee pads as the minimum setup. A full-face helmet is strongly recommended for gravity riding, although an open-face or trail helmet may be acceptable on selected routes. Goggles or riding eyewear are also strongly recommended against dust, mud, wind and changing weather.
What else should I pack for riding days?
Bring enough riding jerseys and clothing changes for the trip, plus riding shoes suited to your pedal system (clip shoes if you ride clipless; flat pedals may be recommended in mud). For multi-day expeditions, two pairs of riding shoes are recommended, plus at least one pair of normal shoes for travel and lodge time. A hydration pack or riding backpack is strongly recommended for water, snacks, a rain shell, extra layers and personal items, along with a lightweight rain jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent and personal essentials.
Can I rent a bike and protection gear?
Bike rentals and selected protection gear may be arranged through local partners depending on availability, sizing and advance reservation. Available rental protection may include gloves, knee pads and a full-face or open-face helmet, depending on sizing and availability. Request rental equipment as early as possible.
Do expeditions include flights?
International and domestic flights are not included.
What happens in bad weather?
Weather in the Andes changes quickly and may vary significantly between riding zones. Rain, fog and changing temperatures do not automatically cancel riding. Route selection and daily flow may adapt depending on access, terrain quality and overall mountain conditions.
What is included?
Each expedition has its own specific inclusions, depending on duration, route, accommodation structure and ride format. In general, Gravity Lines expeditions may include certified guide support in English and Spanish, guide-led route management, vehicle-supported logistics, selected transfers, basic mechanical assistance, ride-day support, selected meals and accommodations when specified in the itinerary. Review the specific expedition page to confirm exactly what is included.
What is not included?
Each expedition has its own specific exclusions, so review the selected expedition page for full details. In general, flights, personal travel insurance, personal expenses, tips, extra hotel nights, single-room supplements, meals not listed in the itinerary, alcoholic beverages, extra drinks, snacks, bike rentals, protective gear rentals and optional add-ons are not included unless stated. Bike spare parts, replacement components, consumables, workshop services and major repairs are also not included; when possible, Gravity Lines may help riders source parts locally, subject to availability.
How many riders are in each group?
Scheduled departures are designed for small groups, with a maximum of 8 riders. At this stage, scheduled departures apply primarily to Highline Traverse. Private and custom itineraries can usually be arranged for 1 to 8 riders, depending on the route, riding level, dates and logistics. Larger private groups may be possible upon request.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation, refund and rescheduling conditions are defined in the official booking terms for each expedition. Because policies may vary depending on the selected tour, departure type, booking date and payment stage, riders should review the applicable terms and conditions before confirming their reservation.
Can I extend my stay in Ecuador?
Optional additional nights in Quito may be arranged upon request, subject to availability.
